N.C. Forest Fires Have New Nemesis

With hot, dry weather and tons of toppled tree debris in area forests, conditions are ripe for brush fires. But Wednesday, state lawmakers got a look at a new fire fighting aid that might cut down on damage.

It's called a Super Scooper. It's an airplane that can scoop up 1,400 gallons of water at a time, then drop its load on burning forests.

The state forestry service wants to buy one, but legislators must allocate money first. If the purchase goes through, North Carolina will be the first state to own one of the planes.
