One volunteer fire department in Nash County is taking action to prevent fires like the one that killed a family of five in Dunn last month.

Firefighters with the Bailey-Green Hornet Fire Department are on a quest to have smoke detectors installed in every home in their district by the end of the summer.

Two local businesses are paying for the supplies. Firefighter Danny Taylor says with their help, firefighters hope to get the devices to people who need them most.

The group is searching out families who need smoke detectors. Anyone who is interested can call the department office in Bailey.
