Parents Worried About Reassignment

It was Abraham Lincoln who supposedly said something about how many people can be pleased and how often, but he'd be hard pressed to find many Apex parents happy about a new school reassignment proposal. Many parents of students at Apex Magnet Elementary School say they want their children to remain where they are.

The proposal has sparked a minor fury in Apex, where the largest movement of students is proposed. The town grew by 15 percent last year and that growth is obvious in town schools, where mobile classrooms have long been a way of life. About 200 students would be moved from Apex Elementary to other elementary schools in the area, and that's what has parents upset.

Parent Rhonda Volka told WRAL-TV5's Bret Baier that she wants her child to stay where he is.

Most parents Baier spoke with said they will be at a public hearing on the reassignment proposal. That hearing will be held at 7 p.m. on February 20 at Sanderson High School.
