Teacher's Students Struggle Back to Normal

New Hope Elementary students returning from the Christmas holiday found their school flag at half-staff Thursday. The holiday killing of fourth-grade teacher Kelly Hawks has her former students and co-workers struggling to get things back to normal.

Her husband, Tim Hawks, is accused of shooting her to death the day before Christmas Eve.

New Hope's principal contacted every student's home to be sure each had heard the news before returning to school. Anne Denlinger, Wilson's school superintendent, says the principal didn't want students coming in to that sort of surprise.

Counselors and psychologists are in place for students and faculty at the school.
