A well known writer has written a fictional story, part of which appears in the latest issue ofRolling Stonemagazine that strikes hard at Fayetteville.

The story reportedly portrays Fayetteville, Fort Bragg and the South in general as backward and dangerous. In one part, for instance, writer Tom Wolfe refers to the South as "skinhead country".

The magazine, which displays a devilish portrait of basketball superstar Dennis Rodman on the cover, is selling briskly. Of particular concern in Fayetteville is the story inside called "Ambush at Fort Bragg", which paints a grim picture of the military city.

Bragg Blvd. is refered to as "a hellish, nightmare alley" and Fort Bragg soldiers are called "lords of testosterone".

Robert Flack has lived in Fayetteville most of his life. He says everyone should keep in mind that the story is fictional.

Tom Wolfe has spent some time in the Fayetteville area and has family in the region.
