Tree Time at Farmer's Market

Triangle area residents who can get to the State Farmer's Market in Raleigh by 4 p.m. today may find themselves the owners of new trees.

The Arbor Day committee is sponsoring a free tree distribution program. The tiny trees are easily loaded into the car and, again because they are small, they don't require a large hole for planting.

Among the trees available are white pine and blue spruce.

Hurricane Fran took many trees with her as she roared through eastern and central North Carolina. The Arbor Day project enables homeowners to recoup some of what was lost.

The Farmer's Market is on Lake Wheeler Road in Raleigh. It is accessible from Interstate 40.
