Body Found in Durham

People walking along Umstead Street in Durham spotted a severely decomposed body in a sewer drainage ditch Sunday. Officials have been unable to determine the person's sex, and the head is missing.

Detectives have been working the area, trying to find some clues. They have no leads, and neighbors say they heard or saw nothing amiss. At this point, no one knows how long the body might have been in the culvert.

The body has been taken to the medical examiner's office in Chapel Hill, where further investigation will continue.
