Twister Cuts Path Through Sampson County

The National Weather Service has confirmed what seems obvious by looking at the pictures.

The weather service confirms a tornado ripped through Sampson County early Tuesday.

From Sky5, it's easy to see the path the twister cut just south of spivey's corner.

The tornado tore a trailer home to pieces, ripped apart a turkey farm, and demolished three other houses in it's path.

Marianna Tew and her husband were in their house when the twister roared through.

"It was just a lot of noise. you could hear the house being ripped apart," Tew said. "We just looked at each other and listened."

Many residents were still in the process of cleaning up from hurricane fran when this tornado rumbled through.

In Dare County, a storm swept over Bodie Island, knocking over a camper at the Oregon Inlet campground.

In Craven County, high winds picked up a garage and damaged some houses. And what appears to have been a tornado at Corps Point in Beaufort County picked up an old church and moved it from its foundation. No injuries were reported.
