Cary Police Seek Assailant In Attempted Park Assault

Cary CrimeStoppers is offering a reward for help in finding a man involved in an alleged attempted sexual assault and robbery at a Cary park.

At about 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, according to Cary police, a man approached a woman between the playground and baseball fields at Fred G. Bond Metro Park and implied he had a weapon. The perpetrator then demanded money from the woman and then knocked her unconscious with an unknown object, investigators said.

The person police are looking for is described as a white male, 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall, in his 40s with a slender to average build. He has gray and black hair and was last seen wearing a khaki coat and blue jeans.

"This was a terrible crime, and we really hope the public will come forward and help us identify the suspect," said Cary police Capt. Dave Wulff.

Cary police said they believe the alleged crime was an isolated incident and that they were unaware of any others at the park recently. Officers, however, were making an extra effort to patrol the area on Sunday.

Further information about the alleged victim was not immediately clear.
