A Greenville police sergeant was assaulted during a drug arrest Tuesday.

Officers said that when they arrived, they witnessed a drug transaction taking place among several individuals.

As officers attempted to detain the suspects, one person resisted arrest and tried to flee the scene. In the ensuing scuffle, Sgt. N.J. Lucas was struck in the face and suffered a broken nose.

The suspect, 25-year-old Khariem Rhamain Everette, and another police officer, P.L. Rollinson, were treated for minor abrasions and released from the hospital.

Everette faces several charges, including possession with intent to sell and assault inflicting serious injury. Two other people -- 21-year-old Quinten Lavaughn Blount and 27-year-old Curtis L. Neil Green -- were cited and released at the scene.

Lucas has since returned to work.
