Raleigh Committee Discusses Implementation Of Year-Round Water Restrictions

A vote could come next week on changes to an approved concept of year-round water restrictions in Raleigh.

The City Council has already approved the plan, which among other things, is likely to limit lawn-watering to three days a week.

The city's public works committee also considered other ideas from a water conservation task force report that would allow golf courses to water daily and help curb water usage through a public education campaign.

One idea that was not considered, however, was tiered water rates, whcih was rejected by the City Council.

Raleigh residents are not the only ones who would have to follow new conservation measures. All cities that buy water from Raleigh would have to abide by the new plan.

Raleigh City Manager Russell Allen opposes year-round water restrictions, but the decision is ultimately made by the City Council.
