A 23-foot speed boat with a V-8 engine slammed into a boat house at Lake Gaston Saturday night, killing George and Cynthia Lozy of Virginia Beach, Virginia, according to the Warren County Sheriff's Department.

Speed and bad weather played a part in the accident, according to the sheriff's department.

The accident happened around 10 p.m. along the lake's southern shore near Eatons Ferry Estates, off Highway 903.

Officials say George, 50, was thrown from the boat, while Cynthia was trapped under it when rescue crews arrived. Investigators say the boat was travelling about 50 miles per hour when it crashed.
