Crews Recover Drowning Victim at Eno State Park

Darkness on Monday forced rescuers to suspend their search for a Chapel Hill man, 18, who friends said went under while swimming in a former quarry, center, and did not reappear.

Authorities have recovered the body of a man who drowned at Eno State Park.

Witnesses said Ian David Creath, 18, of Chapel Hill, was swimming with others at a quarry in the park around 7:30 pm. Monday. They told authorities they saw Creath jump in and begin swimming toward an inflatable raft when he suddenly called for help and went under.

The water in that part of the quarry is believed to be between 35 and 60 feet deep.

Dive teams from the Durham County’s Sheriff Office and Orange County Rescue Squad searched Monday night to no avail. They resumed the search Tuesday morning when they found Creath's body.
