Halifax Commissioners Delay Vote On Fee Refund

Halifax County citizens due a refund from an illegal fee collected nearly five years ago are still waiting. County commissioners have delayed until next month a vote on returning the $57 solid- waste fee to all residents who paid it.

The courts have ruled the fee excessive. The commissioners have returned nearly $29,000 to taxpayers who challenged the fee in court. A refund to all the taxpayers could to amount to more than $1 million.
