Geese At Country Club Will Not Be Euthanized

The geese at a Wake County country club who were going to be euthanized when the club could not persuade them to leave the golf course have a new lease on life.

After several attempts to remove or drive off the geese, North Ridge Country Club got permission from the Department of Agriculture to euthanize them.

The Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Wake County, a group called Geese Peace, and the club have worked out another solution.

The club had complained that the grass there is brown and there are droppings and feathers throughout the grounds.

"The problem North Ridge was facing was that they have several large bodies of water, which is a unique situation. So we're going to have a boat, a dog, and an aggressive egg removal program, so that the geese won't continue to breed there," said Mondy Lamb of the SPCA of Wake County.

The hope is that the geese will eventually relocate to nearby Falls Lake.
