New Test Helps Parents Understand Children's Development

New parents sometimes wonder if their baby is developing properly early on. Now there is a new exam to ease parents' minds.

It was created by renowned pediatrician Dr. T. Berry Brazelton, and is called the Clinical Neonatal Behavioral Assessment Scale exam.

The test checks infant's autonomic and motor responses, which gives clues to their stress levels and coping skills. It helps parents better understand their baby.

"When he's really tired because there's too much going on I can tell, when it's overstimulation versus he's hungry or something like that. You know when to give him his space or when to engage him a little better," says parent Joy Evensen.

More than 30 local health professionals were taught the exam as part of a workshop sponsored by SAS Institute.
