A Durham police technician who mishandled key evidence is no longer working for the department.
Bruce Preiss had been on leave since he admitted to mistakenly throwing away evidence in a domestic violence case.
Police officials will not say if Preiss was fired, resigned or transferred.
Chief Teresa Chambers says there is a new supervisor in charge of that department which will be closely monitored for the next few months.
