Western Wake Residents See Changes In Water

About 100,000 western Wake water customers will notice a change in the way their water looks and smells this month.

The Jordan Lake water plant will be switching to a new cleaning process. The plant supplies water to Cary, Apex, Morrisville, the southern end of RTP, and RDU International Airport.

A Jordan Lake spokesperson says they have to do this once a year in order to kill bacteria that becomes resistant to some chemicals. Customers will notice a strong chlorine smell and a cloudiness in the water when the lines are flushed.

There's nothing to worry about. The water is safe to drink and customers are advised to run their water for a few minutes before washing white garments
