After being damaged by Hurricane Floyd, Rocky Mount's Jones Road bridge is back in commission. Mayor Fred Turnage cut the ribbon shortly before noon on Thursday. Traffic is picking up slowly as word filters out.

The bridge is important to Rocky Mount because it connects East-West traffic, and makes it easier to get downtown or to the hospital. It is possible to get to either destination witho ut using the bridge, but not as convenient.

This is the last bridge in Rocky Mount to be repaired after the hurricane. It has been a long haul for the people of Rocky Mount, but the massive trauma from the storm is gradually receding from daily life.
