UNC Employee Diagnosed with Hepatitis A

A dining hall employee atUNC-Chapel Hillhas contracted Hepatitis A. Health officials say there is no cause for alarm.

The employee, who works at Chase Hall on South Campus, is considered non-infectious. His job responsibilities do not include handling food.

UNC health officials do not think vaccinations are necessary, but students with questions can call the student health center.

Hepatitis A is a virus that affects the liver. It is spread primarily through contaminated food and water. Symptoms include jaundice, fatigue, flu-like illness, diarrhea and pain in the upper right abdomen.
