Mother Charged With Murder in Death of 5-Month-Old
Greenville police Thursday charged a 32-year-old mother with murdering her 5-month-old daughter in January with a drug overdose.
Kendra Thompson of 171 Radford Drive in Newport was arrested after what Greenville detectives called "an extensive investigation" into the death of the infant, whose name was not disclosed.
Police and firefighters found the baby was not breathing when they were called to 1502 Cedar Lane in Greenville on Jan. 19, they said.
The baby was pronounced dead at Pitt Memorial Hospital. There were no signs of foul play at the house, police said, but detectives began an investigation. Toxicology tests deaths showed that the baby died of a lethal dose of a prescription drug called Clonidine that is used to treat high blood pressure.
