Chatham Wreck Kills 2, Injures 10 Others

Investigators still do not know exactly what caused a deadly pileup in Chatham County Thursday afternoon, but they say the rain did not help any.

Metal shrieked and fenders collapsed when seven cars smashed into each other on Highway 421 killing 50-year-old Betty Moore of Sanford, and 79-year-old Iris Fogleman of Liberty.

At least 10 other people were taken to local hospitals in ambulances and helicopters. Authorities say two people walked away from the wreck without any injuries.

The accident backed up traffic for several hours.
