4 Suspects in Custody After Tri-County Manhunt

Four suspects are under arrest in connection with a tri-county manhunt that followed a Saturday afternoon shooting in Wake County. Police departments from across the Triangle had converged in Durham to help chase the suspects.

Brandon Ingram, 17, was arrested at 2:00 a.m. Monday at his home in Apex.

Michael Jordan, 19, and Stephen Forbes, 16, were arrested Sunday. Also in custody is an unidentified 15-year-old.

Ingram, Jordan, Forbes, and the 15-year-old are charged with attempted robbery and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.

Ingram is also charged with one count of common law robbery. Forbes and the 15-year-old are also charged with carjacking. Jordan is not, since it was his car they allegedly took.

A series of events was set in motion about 4:30 Saturday afternoon with a shooting in Raleigh. According to police, the victim, Huey Holden of 8317 Rhodes Road in Apex, was walking on Eisenhower Avenue when a car rolled up beside him, turned and came back beside him again. He began to run and was struck in the back by a bullet.

Police say the suspects left the scene, and were eventually stopped by an Apex officer. At that point, the driver stepped out of the car. The others managed to take off and leave him.

Reports say two of the three suspects then were involved in a car accident at the intersection of Highway 54 and Interstate 40. Police say the suspects then fled on foot, and that is when officers began a search. A chase, they said, was not involved.

As teams of officers and police dogs scoured the neighborhoods along Highway 54 near the Durham-Orange County line, surprised residents were ordered inside their homes.

Shortly thereafter, police caught the juvenile suspect.

"We were watching through the windows, and we had no idea that he would be found under our house," says Durham resident John Cohn.

Cohn and his family were shocked when they found out the suspect was hiding in their crawl space.

"The irony is that we were just inside explaining to our 5-year-old that if someone is being sought by the police, then we don't want to be the ones to find him," Cohn said.

Late Sunday afternoon, Holden was reported in stable condition at WakeMed.
