Police Probing Murder at Raleigh Flea Market

Police are investigating the apparent murder Sunday of a vendor at Watson’s Flea Market on Rock Quarry Road, a police spokesman said.

Police said Emergency Medical Services had received a call about a deceased man about 7:20 a.m.

Pablo Ambriz Ponce, 42, was a vendor at the market, which operates on weekends at 1436 Rock Quarry Road, police said.

Police said Ponce had apparently been shot during the night and was discovered by coworkers when they arrived Sunday morning.

Admission to the market was closed while police investigated.

A state investigation into sales of fake goods at the flea market resulted in 23 people being arrested Jan. 27.

Investigators said they believe certain vendors had been in the habit of selling fake. Members of the recording industry and private corporations tipped off the North Carolina Secretary of State's office.

Undercover officers bought purses, shoes, clothes, CDs and DVDs that were impersonating goods by such vendors as Louis Vuitton, Nike and Coach. They targeted individual sellers.
