Hundreds of children die or are hurt in school bus accidents every year. That's worrisome news for parents of thousands of Triangle children who ride buses to their schools.

This weekend, dozens of people went to N.C. State University to talk about keeping children safe.

They debated every thing from driver training to seat belts. The top priority of the weekend conference was eliminating danger.

Traffic accidents are not the only safety issue in regard to bus travel. Waiting at the bus stop, stepping on and off the bus, crossing the road are other elements of a safe trip.

Experts say the best thing parents can do is make sure their children know and abide by the rules of riding the school bus.
