Bus, Truck Wreck Causes Rush-Hour I-40 Delays

Traffic cleared on Interstate 40 Tuesday morning after a transit bus collided with a tractor-trailer.

The wreck happened around 6:30 a.m. on the eastbound side of I-40 between Aviation Parkway and Airport Boulevard.

The tractor-trailer appeared to have hit the back of the Triangle Transit Authority bus. There were reports of several minor injuries to people riding the bus.

The wreck tied up traffic for nearly three hours in the eastbound lanes and made usual delays in the westbound lanes worse than normal because of onlookers.

A second minor wreck happened behind the bus wreck at one point in the morning.

The bus was towed away around 9:10 a.m. and by 9:30 a.m. traffic was moving with no problems.
