Former Durham Candidate Arrested on Fraud Charge
A man who ran for mayor in Durham in 2005 until it was disclosed that he had a criminal record is in custody on another charge after a two-month search.
Police have been looking for Vincent Brown since December. Tuesday, he was arrested in Pennsylvania.
Brown was being sought on a fraud charge. Authorities allege that he took nearly $30,000 from a man without doing promised construction work.
Brown was a Republican candidate for mayor until October 2005, when he withdrew after it was reported that court records showed he had served time for forgery.
"I have made mistakes in my life, and I am sorry for those mistakes and have learned mightily from them," Brown said in a written statement when he withdrew.
