Halifax County Man In Jail After Saturday Standoff
A Halifax County man is behind bars after an all-day standoff Saturday with authorities.
At about 5:30 a.m. Saturday, investigators say James Justin Braddy shot his father, Johnny Wayne Braddy. According to a statement by the Halifax County Sheriff's Office, officers were able to determine that Braddy's mother was also in the house; that a family member was able to call her; and that she ran out of the house.
When authorities arrived to the house on Popular Street in Hobgood, they say Braddy threatened to shoot anyone who came too close.
A special response team with the State Bureau of Investigation went into the house around 8 p.m. and took Braddy into custody.
Braddy's father was treated at a Tarboro hospital and later released.
Braddy is charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, communicating threats, assault on a law enforcement officer with a firearm and resisting arrest.
He is in jail under a $50,000 secured bond. His next court date is scheduled for Oct. 26.
