Canes 'Suit Up' to Play Visitors--at the White House
The Carolina Hurricanes visited the White House and received presidential plaudits for winning the Stanley Cup, which was on hand.

The Hurricanes hit the White House in force Friday—the whole squad came to meet President Bush and to show off professional hockey's greatest award, the Stanley Cup.
The entire team and management had a visit with President Bush to acknowledge their winning the National Hockey League championship for the 2005-2006 season.
The visit mixed praise and humor. The president congratulated the team on their accomplishment and teased defenseman Mike Commodore about his mane of hair.
"You know, I'm not sure what's prettier—the Stanley Cup or Mike Commodore's hair," Bush told an audience that included the state's two senators and Rep. Howard Coble.
The session was "a pretty big deal for a guy who doesn't even know how to ice skate," the president said to chuckles from the players.
"At the start of the season, this team was ranked 28th out of 30 teams," Bush recalled, tongue-in-cheek, of the championship run. "I like to be around people who keep expectations low."
