Troopers are trying to determine what caused a crash that sent several people to the hospital.

An SUV and two cars collided on Barber Mill Road north of Jack Road south of Clayton about 3 p.m. Sunday. A 9-year-old boy was taken to WakeMed in critical condition. Four other people were hospitalized at WakeMed with non-life threatening injuries, said Highway Patrol officials.

Highway Patrol troopers temporarily closed Barber Mill Road to clean up the crash site. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
