North Carolina judges may soon have the option to carry guns under their robes.
The North Carolina Senate passed a bill Wednesday that would allow trial court judges to bring their guns to work for protection.
The bill was filed just days after a deadly Atlanta courthouse shooting in March. Police said Brian Nichols, who was on trial for rape, stole a guard's gun, and then went on a shooting spree that killed four people, including a judge.
Less than two weeks earlier in Chicago, a disgruntled litigant killed a judge's husband and mother in the judge's home.
The bill now goes to the state House for consideration.
