Authorities are investigating a deadly overnight accident in Chatham County.

Officers said a car traveling north on U.S. 421 near Elmer Moore Road crossed the center line and crashed head-on into a southbound tractor-trailer.

According to police, David Way, 31, of Fayetteville, was killed instantly. The driver of the tractor-trailer suffered minor injuries.

Investigators said that Way was driving to work in Greensboro when the wreck happened at 12:40 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Police said the 12-mile, two-lane stretch of U.S. 421 in that part of Chatham County has been the scene of a number of deadly wrecks since last year. There have been three fatal wrecks this year on that stretch and six last year.
