Local Towns' Leaders Seek Support For Clean Water Bond

Leaders in Apex and Cary are turning on the faucet of publicity to win support for a $145 million clean water bond.

They held a news conference beside Lake Pine Tuesday to talk about the importance of building a state-of-the-art regional wastewater treatment facility.

"We thought it best to offer it to the citizens because we're confident that they'll see the justification in not only obligating the bonds, but building the project," said Apex's mayor, Keith Weatherly.

Residents in both Apex and Cary go to the polls May 3 to vote on the bond referendum.

Leaders argue the bond is the best way to pay for the project without raising property taxes. They say utility rates will cover the cost.
