A Dozen UNC Students Get Antibiotics After One Diagnosed With Meningitis

Officials at UNC-Chapel Hill Student Health Services have given a dozen students antibiotics since a student was diagnosed with bacterial meningitis this past weekend.

The student, who lives off campus at Granville Towers and was diagnosed with the bacterial infection, is the only active case involving a UNC-Chapel Hill student. A previous story on WRAL.com incorrectly said that a second student was diagnosed with meningitis this week.

Student Health Services administered Cipro, an antibiotic, to 12 students since March 14 as a precautionary measure.

Since the start of the school year, a total of three students have been diagnosed with the bacterial infection. The first two made complete recoveries.
