Raleigh Hall Of Fame Inductees Announced
The inaugural inductees for the Raleigh Hall of Fame were announced at Tuesday's Raleigh City Council meeting.
The group will be inducted into the Hall of Fame in a ceremony on Sept. 8.
· Ralph Campbell Sr. and his wife, June, for their leadership in the civil rights movement
· Everett Case -- NCSU head basketball coach 1946-65 for redefining the role of basketball throughout N.C.
· Josephus Daniels -- editor and publisher of the News and Observer for his service to the nation as secretary of the Navy under Woodrow Wilson and Ambassador to Mexico under Franklin Roosevelt
· Marjorie Boyd Debnam -- who spent 50 years dedicated to community service for her contributions to the YWCA and The Friends of Distinction which helped shape the lives of 700 young African American men
· William Finlator -- former minister at Pullen Baptist Church for his social conscience and leadership during the civil rights movement
· A.J. Fletcher -- founder of CBC for what he gave back to his city and state through philanthropy and love of opera
· John P. Green for over 30 years of active service in preserving the city of oaks and as a community spokesman for southeast Raleigh.
· Betty Ann Knudsen -- first woman to chair the Wake County Board of Commissioners for her dedicated community service and for serving as a role model for women seeking elected office
· R. Beverley Raney and Mollie Huston Lee for their contributions to the library system
· Dr. Annie Louise Wilkerson -- a pioneer female physician for her devotion to her profession and a lifetime of community service
· James "Willie" York, who built Cameron Village, the southeast's first shopping center for his community service, philanthropy and business career which spanned most of the 20th century
· The Woman's Club of Raleigh for its 100 years of volunteer efforts to make Raleigh a better place to live
