Cary is a step closer to a new voting method.

Council approved the "Vote by Mail" program for use in May's bond referendum.

Under the proposed Vote By Mail pilot program, traditional polling places would not be used. Instead, registered voters would be mailed a ballot, which they would complete and return to the Wake County Board of Elections.

The plan still needs the green light from the General Assembly.

If approved, it would be the first time in state history the program is used.
