Duffel Bag Found At Fayetteville School Not Dangerous

A suspicious duffel bag forced Cumberland County authorities to use a robot to determine its contents.

The duffel bag was discovered Friday morning at College Lakes Christian Academy in Fayetteville, a Baptist-affiliated coed school for pre-kindergarten through 12th grade.

School officials said the duffel bag had metal hanging out of it, so they called 911. A bomb squad was dispatched to assess the situation.

"They said it was a pipe with caps, which would make them think a bomb was in it," said the Rev. Bobby Glenn Smith.

Authorities used a robot to search through the duffel bag. They were able to determine that it had scrap metal and other materials in it -- nothing that was considered dangerous.
