Durham police are trying to locate a former Durham mayoral candidate accused of fraud.

Investigators said Vincent Cortez Brown, 45, of Durham, was paid nearly $30,000 for architectural and construction work last year under a contract but that no work was ever done.

Brown ran for mayor in 2005 but withdrew from the race days after it became public knowledge that he served time in prison for forgery.

He is charged with one count of obtaining property by false pretense.

Anyone with information on Brown’s whereabouts should call the Durham Police Department at 919-560-4440, ext. 254 or CrimeStoppers at 919-683-1200.
