A paramedic who accused Cape Fear Valley Medical Center of overbilling patients now says the hospital is retaliating against her.

Melissa Wen Petren reported to state investigators that Cape Fear routinely overcharged for certain ambulance services. Now, she said the hospital will not allow her to work and collect a paycheck.

Some of Wen Petren's paramedic certification expired while was she out on medical leave. She said despite a promise to find her another job, Cape Fear will not help her.

Citing personnel confidentiality, the hospital will not comment on the issue.
