A 49-year-old Zebulon man was being held in the Wake County jail Monday night on several charges after leading authorities on a high-speed chase in Durham County.

Scott Bardt was charged with DWI, driving with an open container, driving with a revoked license, speeding to elude arrest and careless/reckless driving.

Before the chase began, Raleigh police officers reported suspicious behavior by Bardt in north Raleigh. The driver then headed into Durham, where Highway Patrol Troopers started noticing Bardt driving through some lights.

The chase began on Corwallis Road and ended on Grandale Road, just south of Durham. Bardt drove the car into or near a sewer substation, where the vehicle caught fire and caused roughly $70,000 in damage to the substation.

The chase involved the Highway Patrol and a Durham deputy.
