Police: Man Accused Of Using Job Promises, Radio To Prey On Women

Investigators in two counties say a man accused of raping four women may have other victims. They say he used promises and the radio to find women to prey on.

Detectives said it started with a public service announcement on a Spanish radio station. Alejandro Francisco, 23, called in to a program on La Super Mexicana and said he had a job opening. Investigators said Francisco would set up meetings in parking lots with women to discuss the job.

"He would initially indicate to them that they were going to a place where they might be working," said Sgt. Stacy Deans, of the Raleigh Police Department.

Authorities said Francisco later took them to a wooded area and raped them. They said he threatened the lives of some of the women. Others were assaulted and robbed of jewelry.

Francisco was later arrested by authorities at the King's Motel in downtown Raleigh.

"We are dealing with a very dangerous person," Deans said.

Federeic van Gelderen, who runs Que Pasa Radio, said his station airs a similar public service program. He said while he tries to screen people who participate, it is simply impossible to do for a live show.

"It's a huge problem with the language barrier of where they can get information. Unfortunately, it's good for some people, but opportunities for these type of people to have this type of scam," he said.

Francisco is being held on more than $7 million bond. Four law agencies are working on this case. They all think more victims might be afraid to report similar crimes because they are illegal immigrants. Police are urging them to come forward, regardless of their immigration status.
