Spanish Interpreters Sought To Help Wake Investigators Bridge Language Gap

The Wake County Sheriff's Office is asking Spanish-speaking volunteers to help bridge a growing language gap.

Sheriff Donnie Harrison says the Hispanic boom has produced a language barrier that his officers encounter several times a week.

The sheriff's office is putting out the call for help, distributing flyers in Hispanic communities asking for volunteer interpreters to be on call whenever a deputy hits a language road block.

So far, the sheriff's office has five potential interpreters. They are going through extensive background checks to make sure they are trustworthy.
