Man to be charged with murder in the death of his uncle

A 21-year-old man arrested Saturday morning in connection with the death of his uncle will be charged with first-degree murder, Cumberland County authorities said.

A Cumberland County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman said Charles Christopher Crampton was arrested in Onslow County Saturday morning while driving his uncle's 1990 Chrevolet Corvette.

Crampton is the nephew of Robert Herman Blizzard, 40, a retired Fort Bragg soldier who was found dead in his home on Wolfe Lee Drive Friday afternoon after deputies were called to do a well-being check.

Blizzard served two tours in Afghanistan before retiring from the military in August.

Blizzard's body will be sent to the State Medical Examiner's office in Chapel Hill for an autopsy to determine the cause of death, authorities said. Family members told WRAL Saturday that Blizzard had been shot to death.

A weapon was found in the vehicle with Crampton when he was arrested Saturday, although police would not say what the weapon was or if it was used in the homicide.

Crampton was being held in Onslow County Saturday for motor vehicle theft, but he will be brought back to Cumberland County in the next week and charged with first-degree murder, authorities said. Once he is back in Cumberland County, he will be held without bond.
