Cobras Come From Behind To Beat Buffalo 59-57
The Carolina Cobras spotted Buffalo a 19-point lead in the first quarter, but came back behind the play of Cornelius White to edge the Destroyers, 59-57, in front of 10,559 at the Entertainment & Sports Arena.
White, who dropped a pair of key passes in the final drive of the game last week in the loss at Chicago, played an all-around game, catching 6 passes for 76 yards and two touchdowns and returning the second half kick off 45 yards for a score. He also chipped in with a pair of tackles on defense.
Cobras (3-1) quarterback Fred McNair passed for 288 yards on 22 of 40 passing with five scores and no interceptions. Buffalo (2-2) signal-caller Jim Kubiak had a career day in the loss, passing for 348 yards and seven touchdowns on just 14 of 21 attempts.
Kevin Mason led all receivers with 6 catches for 194 yards and four touchdowns for the Destroyers. McNair competed passes to eight different receivers. Carl Bond hauled in four passes for 43 yards and a score and rookie lineman Silas Demary caught four passes for 35 yards. Kotton Cotton added a pair of touchdowns for Carolina.
The Cobras hit the road next week as they travel to take on the Grand Rapids Rampage on Friday, May 11, 7:30 p.m. from Van Andel Arena. Carolina returns to the Triangle to host the New York Dragons on Friday, May 18, 7:30 p.m. at the ESA.
