Reid Gets 39 Years For Shooting 3 People At Waffle House
A man who pleaded guilty to a shooting at a Waffle House restaurant has been sentenced to a minimum of 39 years and nine months in prison.
Latwang Reid, 25, was a fugitive for two months before he was arrested Nov. 13 while trying to hide under a bed.
On Sept. 17, Reid pleaded guilty to shooting three people at a Waffle House. He was to be sentenced to 15 years in prison that afternoon, and Superior Court Judge Jim Ammons allowed Reid a few hours to say goodbye to his children and family. But Reid never returned.
Authorities say Reid shot two men during the weeks he was a fugitive. In one case, a man was paralyzed below the waist. In the other, a man was shot in the stomach.
On Wednesday, Ammons ordered drug and psychological counseling for Reid and recommended he not be eligible for work release.
Reid was arrested after sheriff's deputies and members of the U.S. Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force tracked Reid to a trailer in Hoke County. A pistol and a rifle were found inside the trailer, said sheriff's investigator Lt. Sam Pennica.
Two other men, Kenneth Christopher Jacobs and Kevin Brian Moore, were charged after the Waffle House shootings and accepted plea agreements. Jacobs was sentenced to about two years in prison. Moore will be sentenced next month.
