Democrat Mike McIntyre has beaten Republican James Adams for the second time to win the Seventh District congressional race.

With 42 percent of the vote counted, McIntyre has 68 percent of the vote. Unofficial returns show Adams has 30 percent of the vote.

Democrats outnumber Republicans two-to-one in the Seventh District, and the party has held the seat for decades.

McIntyre is a member of the Agriculture and Armed Services committees. The conservative Democrat was one of two party members in the North Carolina delegation to vote for a resolution authorizing the use of force against Iraq.
