Durham-Based Cyberlux Acquires Patent-Pending LED Technology

, a developer of lighting solutions based on light-emitting diode technology, has acquired an LED subsidiary of UTEK Corporation in a stock transaction.

Financial details were not disclosed.

The deal provides Cyberlux with patent-pending technology for a method of improving the efficacy of down-converted white light illuminators created with LEDs. The “Scattered Photon Extraction” technique was developed by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y.

“This newly acquired technology gives Cyberlux the ability to ultimately hold the proprietary rights to a technology that could provide major advancements in the LED marketplace,” said Mark Schmidt, president and chief operating officer of Cyberlux.
