The State Board of Transportation has rejected a contractor's bid for a planned section of the Outer Loop.

Board members said Lane Construction's bid which averaged nearly $20 million a mile was just too high.

The Department of Transportation says it will put the planned section of Interstate 540 from I-40 to Highway 55 near Apex back out to bid. They hope to have the contract awarded by March.

The state claims the rejected bid will not hurt the planned opening date of late 2005.
