Booze It/Lose It Campaign Kicks Off Thursday

The state's holiday "Booze It and Lose It" campaign kicks off Thursday.

Authorities are starting prior to Thanksgiving to cover the entire holiday travel period and will work the campaign through the new year.

Last year, 4,300 motorists were arrested for DWI violations during the "Booze It and Lose It" campaign. This year, the state's five BATmobiles, or breath alcohol testing mobile units, will be at it again.

Despite a massive campaign effort, 43 people died during the 2002 holiday season from impaired-driving crashes in North Carolina.

Officials say the campaign will be in full swing this weekend. Some of the checkpoints will be in Cary and Durham.
