Roxboro Man Released From Hospital After Being Critically Injured In Durham Accident

A Roxboro man has been released from the hospital after being critically injured in a traffic accident last month.

Dock Ragland, 46, was driving a van that collided with a dump truck Aug. 16, 2003, on North Duke Street near Diane Street.

According to the police, Ragland's northbound 1985 Plymouth van crossed the center line and drifted into the path of a southbound dump truck driven by Reginald Breckenridge Day Jr. of Raleigh.

Day attempted to avoid the accident. But the vehicles collided head-on.

Police said Ragland was trapped inside the van for more than 45 minutes before he was extricated by Durham firefighters.

Ragland was taken to Duke University Medical Center in critical condition. Day was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

A portion of North Duke Street was shut down for more than two hours as a result of the accident.

The van was a total loss. The dump truck, which is owned by Earth Performance Inc. of Durham, sustained extensive front end damage.

Charges still have not been filed in the accident.
